Every summer the Goodwood Festival of Speed sets pulses soaring and memories flooding back as revered cars, motorbikes, drivers and riders come together from around the globe to create an extraordinary celebration of motorsport. This official book tells the story of the Festival and captures over a decade of what has been dubbed 'the Greatest Show on Earth'. 'Goodwood is special because it gives me the chance to meet up with the old boys, as well as keeping my hand in behind the wheel.' Sir Jack Brabham 'The Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb was the narrowest, bumpiest, least grippy course I've ever driven. But I loved it.' Juan Pablo Montoya Legends from the past and current Fl heroes are united in their love of and admiration for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Since its first running in 1993, the Festival has become a highpoint of the motoring year, offering a heady cocktail of power, adrenalin, nostalgia and style to fans, who can get close to the cars they covet and the drivers they idolise. The Festival is the brainchild of the Earl of March and his expert, enthusiastic team. It is a simple but brilliant vision: to run very fast cars and motorbikes up a tree-lined hill in the picturesque park of Goodwood House, a wonderful setting where crowds can watch noisy, colourful historic marques speed past, virtually within touching distance. There are cars and motorbikes that few ever thought they would see run again; a cavalcade of the rare (like Jim Hall's high-wing Chaparrals), the aerodynamically gorgeous (the sumptuous outline of the 1954 Mercedes-Benz Streamliner), the jaw-droppingly powerful (a Porsche 917-30 ripping up the hill) and the extremely loud (Nick Mason's BRM V16). The contributing team on this book combines top motoring journalists and writers, drivers, insiders and celebrities, including Jenson Button and David Coulthard, Murray Walker and Nigel Roebuck, Jay Kay and David Linley. Each contributor is a confirmed autophile; all are unified in their unbridled passion for cars. Alongside a complete record of every car, every driver and all the highlights since the Festival began, from 1993 to 2003 and between images from Goodwood's archive and specially commissioned photographs, their writing summons up the spirit of the Festival's long summer weekends, recalls the classic reunions, and explains the surge of emotion that surrounds this unique event.
