Over the 75 years of Mont Ventoux covered by this book from the period of "Pioneers" (1902-1913), the era of the "Gentlemen Drivers" (1921-1936) and ending with the "Modern Times" (1947-1976), the record was lowered twenty-six by cars, twenty-one times on motorcycles and fifteen times in sidecars. Chauchard, the first winner of this test in 1902 running a Panhard-Levassor, clocked 47.501 km/h on average. The ultimate winner in 1976 was Mieusset in a March, running at an average speed of 149.192 km/h. Most brands of European manufacturers, the likes of Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Delage, Peugeot, Abarth, Ferrari, Porsche, have tried and done everything to snatch a victory on Mount Ventoux, for not only is this event a judgment on the reliability and power of engines, but also the courage of the drivers. With records and placement positions of the various competitors that have taken part over the 75 years history, this book offers a fascinating reference of those times passed, both in text and photographic illustrations.
