Bugatti Argentina reflects the Argentine passion for car racing prevailing during the pre-war years and particularly the affinity that some drivers felt for the French make during the twenties. This is the first time in Argentina that a book has been written relating the history which commenced in 1924, when the first Type 30 arrived and continued until the sixties when Bugatti fans devoted themselves to salvaging and restoring the cars. The trend resurged during the nineties with a new group of collectors. Bugatti created over the years a mystique which continues intact until the present day. There are many new photographs in this book, as well as a lot of information not known to Bugatti enthusiasts in the old world. Apart from all the information on races, and a register of Argentinean Bugattis, it contains a history on the fleet of Baby Bugattis in the Buenos Aires Zoo! Set against the cultural and economic background of Argentina in the 1920s and 1930s, this book describes the relationship between Bugatti and Argentina from an historical standpoint. It begins with an overview of Art and Architecture in Argentina in the 1930's followed by a brief review of the Bugatti family history. It includes a chapter about the unsuccessful mission of Martin de Alzage Unzue to Indianapolis in 1923 with five Type 30s, two of the five cars were for Count Zborowski and Prince de Cystria. There is also a chapter about the first Bugattis in Argentina, describing how these European cars were breaking the domination of US cars in Argentina. The chapter dealing with the racing successes is presented in chronological order, from 1926 through 1952 and includes the ex Achille Varzi Type 51 owned by Roberto Mieres and a detailed table of racing results from 1924 through to 1956 itemised by Day, Month, Year, Race, Position, Driver, Car Number and Car Type. There is a separate chapter dedicated to the Type 52 races held in the Zoo of Buenos Aires, twenty three of these miniature cars were imported to be rented at the Zoo. The final section of the book contains a register of the remaining known Bugattis in Argentina many with multiple current photographs, owner history and car history if known. Limited and individually numbered edition. Only 1400 copies published.
