On June 30, 1953, the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan. It was not long afterward that the first Corvette rolled onto a racetrack starting grid. In the intervening 50 years something truly astounding took place: the Corvette, America's sports car, developed and updated to became a dominating force in racing around the world from Daytona to Sebring and Le Mans. It is a fascinating story with as many twists and turns as the racetracks the Corvette has won on. It is also a story that has yet to be told the way it should be. Until now. "Corvette Thunder, 50 Years of Corvette Racing, 1953-2003" tells the story as it should be told, in 6 chapters each covering a specific period with hundreds of period photographs and the first person recollections from drivers who were there making history racing Corvettes on the world's most famous tracks. Noted motorsports historian Dave Friedman has spent more than a year compiling this incredible, second-to-none photographic history of Corvette racing. Scouring his personal archives plus those of other historians, and race tracks worldwide, Friedman has amassed literally hundreds of unpublished, or rarely published, photographs which help bring together more than 600 black & white and colour photographs contained in the book, vividly bringing to life the greatest moments in Corvette racing during the past half century. Add to this the many personal interviews with some of the legendary figures involved in the Corvette's racing history - men like Dr. Dick Thompson, Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant, Dick Guldstrand, Jim Jeffords, and many more, and the result is a book for anybody who has any interest in the history of America's sports car.
