Although many may think that it was only the Austin 7 which was campaigned in competition , this publication sows the seed with the early years of Austin 1906-1912 and illustrates the 1908 100hp Grand Prix racer, Miss Muriel Thompson at the wheel of ‘Pobble’, Percy Lambert’s ‘Pearley’ single seater and Waite’s 20hp racer ‘Black Maria’. The chapters then progress with the Seven, from its early appearance in endurance racing at such events as the 1924 Le Mans Grand Prix de Voiturettes, through to the single seaters which ran at Brooklands, such as the ‘Duck’ Team, and the specials such as Mrs Jo Jo. Boyd Carpenter and others are covered during the 1927-28 period and then onto the famous Ulster models, before Jamieson and the Twin Can racing car – the finest 750cc racer in the world - is discussed. With a resume of abbreviated technical specifications of the cars covered, this publication offers a good insight into Austin Racing History.
