Healey The Specials

The Austin Healey was one of the most successful sporting marques ever produced. Models from the entire range, from the small low-cost Sprite to the luxury 3000, have now become collector's pieces, proudly displayed and raced at the numerous Healey club meetings held throughout the world. Geoffrey Healey, chief engineer of the team that created this great marque, has already written two motoring best sellers, the first concentrating on the Big Healeys and the second on its smaller cousins, the Sprites and Midgets. In response to the public request for more information, he has written this new history, concentrating on one of the most intriguing and exciting aspects of any car manufacturing enterprise: the specials. Drawing on a vast store of material accumulated by his family during its very long involvement with the motor car industry, he describes in detail the development and subsequent career of these special cars created by the Healey team at Warwick, like the Nash Healey, a Healey Silverstone with a Cadillac V8 engine, the 100s, cars that exceeded 200 mph, cars that blazed the Healey name around the racing circuits of the world, cars that never got off the drawing board, and odd ball cars SR and XR 37, described from the designer's viewpoint and listed in an appendix register of special cars and experimental cars.
