On the 21st June 1914, the quiet dusty roads running through the small villages of the Mugello, a stupendous hilly region just outside Florence, first became the setting for a motor car race. Since then, despite all its many changes, the Mugello has become synonymous with racing, highly tuned engines and heroic drivers, so much so that at the beginning of the seventies a suitably shortened stretch of the old natural road circuit was closed to ordinary traffic and converted into an autodrome. But that was not the final stage in the evolution of the Mugello. In 1988 Ferrari bought the autodrome and immediately launched a radical reconstruction programme aimed at making the Mugello the safest and most attractive track in the world. Two years later, the new Mugello Autodrome was a surprising reality and in the September of 1991 the Ferrari Club Italia decided to hold its grand annual meeting there. Two hundred Ferraris showed up to tinge the place with red. A history of the circuit, a report of the meeting organised by the Ferrari Club Italia and a description of the most important phases of the reconstruction work come together to form this book, which is dedicated to the beauty of the Tuscan countryside and to the Prancing Horse which has elected to make it its second home.
