The Lagonda is a legend amongst the ranks of the finest of British motor cars. From the turn of the century until 1947, when the company was sold, Lagonda produced many fine cars, and its name was synonymous with good design, durability, and quality engineering. Founded in 1899 in Staines by an American, Wilbur Adams Gunn, the company started producing motor-cycles and tri-cars before developing a range of four-wheeled vehicles. Many of the marque's greatest achievements came in the inter-war years, and no book on Lagonda would be complete without mention of its competitive activities. All of the important sporting events are fully covered, together with some fine action photographs taken during racing at Brooklands, Ards and Le Mans, together with road trials and the Monte Carlo Rallies. This is an essential reference book for motoring historians and Lagonda enthusiasts, providing technical details of every model produced at Staines, and describing some of the influential personalities who designed, built and raced Lagondas. Accompanying the text are nearly 500 photographs, which have been carefully selected to show the cars when new or, where this has not been possible, faithfully restored.
