The model life of the Phantom II was relatively short, only six years, but those years deserve a particular niche in the annals of motoring history, for during that time Rolls Royce produced one of their most magnificent ex¬amples ever. It was the last of the great six cylinder cars that the master himself, Henry Royce, personally designed, and it was to be his best effort, surpassing in every facet of design excellence and manufacturing technique even the earlier Silver Ghost that earned the company such a reputation. Raymond Gentile presents in this book a complete and compre¬hensive study of the model from its inception in the late 1920s, through the many changes and improvements to the time when the last Phantom II rolled off the line in 1935. There are chapters on the various chassis series: GX, JS, AJS, MS, AMS, MY, MW, PY, RY, SK, TA, UK. In the appendix is detailed a full chassis list of the cars produced, giving: chassis number, engine number, steering rake, original owner, coachbuilder and body style. With special emphasis on the Continental, many diagrams and over 200 photographs illustrate the body styles built onto the chassis, and show how the coachbuilders utilized it to produce one of the most magnificent and classic motor vehicles the world has ever known.
