This is an expanded edition of a unique history of a most distinguished marque. It contains a wealth of contemporary material, covering models from the first 1904 twin-cylinder car, through to the Silver Ghost, 20hp, the Phantoms (1,2,3), 20/25, 25/30, Wraith, Silver Dawn, Silver Wraith and Silver Clouds (1,2,3), the later Phantoms (4,5,6) and Silver Shadows, to the Corniche and Camargue of the 1970s, Silver Wraith II and the Silver Spirit of the 1980s. It draws extensively on the archives of the leading motor journal The Autocar, including descriptions and technical articles, driving impressions, road tests and some postwar coachwork articles, with coverage of Hooper and Freestone & Webb. Facsimile reproduction captures the essence of the times when these articles were first published, while occasional retrospective features by later writers re-examine past models in perspective. Among the hundreds of illustrations are the photographs which accompanied the original Autocar articles, and some which have not been published before, together with many cutaway drawings and technical diagrams.
