Long Straights and Hairpin Turns is the first of two volumes capturing a special time in Pacific Northwest sports car racing history, the 1950s and 1960s. The story, written with amazing detail, insight, and passion, starts in 1950 with the first four-cylinder exhaust notes at B.C.'s Abbotsford Airport and ends with the 1961 season when big time professional racing was about to come to the Northwest. The years in between were a special time which saw camaraderie and fierce competition in cars ranging from MG, Allard, Jaguar XK, Porsche 356, Kurtis, Ferraris Monza, 375 and Testa Rossa, Bristol engined Frazer Nash, Maserati, HWM, Lotus, Formula 3 cars such as Cooper 500s, to the most basic back-yard specials. Memories, stories, and over 500 photographs from these colourful years have been gathered by Martin Rudow who personally witnessed many of the events of the day and has vividly portrayed them in over 180 pages and included detail on the drivers and venues used such as Abbotsford, Bellingham, Shelton, Paine Field, Bremerton, Tillamook, Bowers Field, Ellensburg, Deer Pack, Arlington, Westwood, Pacific Raceways, Vanport, Mary Hill Loops Hillclimb Course, and Fort Lawton Hillclimb.
