“I live for the German sport.” Hans Bretz records the life of Bernd Rosemeyer, from the early days as a motor cycle rider and racer with hardly any experience in normal front engined race cars; he took a giant leap to becoming a driver for Auto Union. Later, this lack of experience was considered a benefit as he was not yet used to the handling of traditional layout race cars, allowing him to get more of a feel for the rear engined Silver Arrows of Auto Union which were hard to drive. Rosemeyer soon shone in the world of Grand Prix racing, starting to win sensational victories and take podium positions, which is where he was introduced to the famous aviatrix Elly Beinhorn. Their celebrity relationship grew and allowed him to learn to fly a private plane. They married in 1936. His son Bernd Jr was born in November 1937, but only weeks after his son's birth, Rosemeyer was killed during a world speed record attempt. Produced in period and with a select number of photographs, this book gives an insight into the pre war world of a Grand Prix driver.
