Much of Enzo Ferrari's success is owed to the high calibre of engineering and driving talent with which he has surrounded himself, but the single significant factor is his uncompromising love of racing, backed by an unswerving insistence on mechanical excellence. This book, the standard reference work for over ten years and now in its fourth revised and enlarged edition, covers every type of Sports and Gran Turismo car built by Ferrari, from the earliest 1.5-litre V- I 2s to the latest V-8s and flat-12s of 1979. During thirty three seasons, Ferrari has produced competitive cars of amazingly diverse specification, every one of them dominated by an engine of technical ingenuity and beautifully precise machining. While the V-12 layout has become almost synonymous with the name Ferrari, engines of inline 4, inline 6, V-6, V-8 and flat- 12 configurations have also powered the various competition and road cars. These have ranged in displacement from only 1.5 litres up to the huge 7-litre Can-Am unit, and the current line produced at Maranello includes engines from two to five litre capacity, in V-8, V-12 and flat-12 configuration. In addition to the racing machinery that has continually if not continuously dominated Gran Turismo and sports car events, the book covers in detail all the production cars and custom bodywork which have made the name Ferrari as glamorous to the wealthy private owner as to the racing enthusiast. The production Ferraris have become steadily more sophisticated and reliable over the years, with the present range of Gran Turismo machines offering the highest level of road performance. This fourth enlarged edition is brought up to date by additions to existing chapters and by the inclusion of all new material on the 308 GTS, 308 GTB Silhouette and Studio, 308 GT Rainbow, 400 A and 512 BB, the latter in both its production and latest competition forms. Ten new Ferrari types have been added and nearly 50 new photographs document their distinct variations, bringing the book's exceptional pictorial coverage to over 650 illustrations in colour and black & white, including many technical drawings.
