The initials W.O. Will always be associated with fast cars and a period in the 1920s, when the products of his genius swept the board race after race, whether at Brooklands or Le Mans. W. O. Bentley and his great green cars raced on the track by the millionaire play-boys in his team, like Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry Birkin and Glen Kidston, and bought by the rich and famous from Britain's Royal Family and nobility, to film stars and matinee idols, drew the public's fancy and added a touch of colour, of vicarious excitement and glamour, to a decade. Only the 20’s could have produced `The Bentley Boys'; only W.O. Could have produced the Bentley. But W.O. Is also remembered for his Bentley Rotary Aero engines which helped turn the tide in the air on the Western Front, for his prowess on two wheels as well as four, for the great Lagonda V12 of the '30s and for his connection with David Brown and Aston Martin. This is the life of the brilliant and modest man whose only standard is perfection, who has been the centre of greater controversy and has known more of triumph and misfortune than anyone else in the business. There was a lovely comment made by the Daily Mail newspaper when this book was first published: `A book for every man who drove a green Bentley through a daydream to win a woman or Le Mans.'
