The first event in 1899 was won by René de Knyff driving a Panhard et Levassor. Organised by Le Journal Le Matin, under the control of the Automobile Club de France, the event was to continue running until 1986. During the in-between years, a host of unusual and exotic cars have taken part, from the pre war 12hp Panhard Levassor, Delage, SARA, through to the 1950s with a fantastic array of Ferrari and Maserati sports cars, as well as the likes of Alfa Romeos and latterly the Renault 5 Turbo and Peugeot 205. With his usual attention to detail and a vast array of photographs, Maurice Louche has produced a super reference work of this event. Devotees will be amazed by the quality of the work and the amount of information contained in both these dual language volumes.
