In 1906, Rolls-Royce introduced the model which would establish the company’s world-wide reputation for engineering excellence. Known officially as the 40/50hp, the model became known more widely by the name of its most famous example: The Silver Ghost.

Steve Hubbard has now written a book, The Vintage Silver Ghost, as the definitive sequel to Fasal & Goodman’s The Edwardian Rolls-Royce.

  • Volume I presents the art of coachbuilders in 468 photographs. Coachbuilders and styles are listed, with their production output on the Silver Ghost chassis.
  • Volume II covers the evolution of the post-war Derby-built Silver Ghost and the emergence of the Springfield Silver Ghost, with specifications and production modifications for both. There are cameo chapters covering owners, journeys, unusual cars, and even Silver Ghost utility vehicles. Appendices include an alphabetical index of the names of first owners, and a glossary of coachbuilding terms. Important individuals in the companies, and Rolls-Royce patents are listed . There is a complete catalogue of Sales Literature, with illustrations, and the Instruction Books and Spare Parts Books and tools are listed.
  • Volume III comprises a fully integrated chronological Register of both Derby and Springfield chassis, with details of engine number, coachwork, original and celebrity owners, country of first delivery and current believed survival status.

Each volume begins with a substantial contents list, and the three volumes, each of 512 A4 landscape format pages, are supplied in a slip case.
