Alfa Romeo is a name which conjures in the mind visions of a great past, littered with great names and great deeds. And, of course, it does have a history embellished with racing trophies and lists of victories which are the envy of industry and sport alike. But Alfa Romeo's main aim has always been to manufacture quality cars for sale to its public. This book is particularly concerned with just three lines of a family tree which has many ramifications. Those three are the Spider which first appeared in 1955, the Alfasud range from 1971-84 and the Alfetta GT, GTV, GTV6 1974-86. At first glance, you could be forgiven for assuming that those three lines had nothing at all to do with each other. But all three take their roots in the same successful model, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. David Styles reviews the legend and history of Alfa Romeo and goes on to tell the complete story of these three Alfa models, also taking a look at the Alfa 33. Each car is closely examined for attributes and faults, there are comparisons with contemporaries, road tests and guidance on what to look for today as you buy one of these Italian works of art. The detailed text is richly illustrated with colour and black and white photographs, and is further supplemented by model specifications and biographies of the men behind the cars, providing essential information for owners or would-be owners of these marvellous sports cars, and an ideal work of reference, also incorporating a look at Alfas at play – racing and rallying.
