The Frazer Nash was a car widely used for motor sporting activities including racing, rallies, hill climbs and mud plugging trials. It was in the main driven by amateurs for enjoyment. The number of cars that were made that never competed in motor sport were certainly less than 10% of the production. An introductory chapter includes the history of the GN cyclecar, from 1911 until 1922, which was the antecedent of the Frazer Nash. The Frazer Nash works in the twenties were in Kingston Upon Thames in Surrey and from 1930 at Isleworth in Middlesex. Production ran from 1923 until 1957. 350 chain driven cars were made and less than 100 post war cars. The post war cars were developed from the BMW 328 and had a conventional gear box and transmission system. The chain drive cars competed in the main in Britain but the post 1945 cars scored successes at Le Mans, the Targa Florio, the Giro di Sicilia and at Sebring in the United States. The book is written by the acknowledged historians of the marque: David Thirlby who produced the ‘Chain Drive Frazer Nash’ in 1965 and ten years later ‘Frazer Nash’; Tony Bancroft, with his post-war Frazer Nash expertise, was co-opted onto the Frazer Nash Section of the VSCC Registry to record the history of the post-war cars; and the late Denis Jenkinson, as archivist for the Frazer Nash records, worked closely with both authors and the archive held by John Aldington has been researched for this book. With over 200 illustrations, 60 of the pages are a closely detailed register and history of every car the firm manufactured. All owners, where known, are listed against each car up to 1999, when the book went to press.
