Complied by Bernard Simon and Julius Kruta, the book’s main focus is on the remarkable and highly desirable Bugatti Type 57s. Setting the scene for the production Type 57s models, the authors first take a look at the social scene in France in the 30’s, and then progress to the economical situation for Bugatti. Development of the standard Type 57, into derivatives such as the Type 57GR and Type 57T, laid the way for the production of this new sports chassis the Type 57S. With the first details of the Type 57s project car appearing in 1935/36, it is from this point onwards that the book progresses into a register style publication - chassis by chassis. Detailed and illustrated with a wealth of both period and contemporary illustrations for each individual car’s history over the years. There are references to the factory chassis list, the Carnet Books – four small hand written notebooks written by Mr Prache (Manager at the factory) – the Factory Production report, Carosseries - a small bound note book, which gives an overview on coachwork carried out, the engine list and a sales list. In the Appendix at the rear of the publication are reproduced examples of the Type 57s sales brochure issued by the Bugatti Depot in Brixton Road, London, nine drawings produced by Gangloff for sports two seater bodies, drawn but never produced and finally a chassis list incorporating the Type 57GR (Grand Raid) , Type 57T and Type 57s chassis.
