The Second World War took its toll on coachbuilders, and in the following ten years most of the remainder ceased to build bodies. Rolls Royce factory bodies such as standard steel Silver Dawn, Silver Cloud and Phantom range, Silver Shadow and Corniche are illustrated in this book, although the main theme is continuing the topic set out in ‘Those Elegant Rolls Royce’; that of the coachbuilder’s craft as applied to Rolls-Royce from 1946 to 1971. Nearly every different body design mounted on post war Rolls-Royce chassis is shown, including coachbuilders’ drawings and photographs of interiors. The work of Freestone & Webb, Hooper, H.J Mulliner, Park Ward, H.J Mulliner-Park Ward, James Young, Henri Chapron, Pinin Farina, Franay, Ghia, Gurney Nutting, Harwood, Inskip, F.L.M Panelcraft, Harold Radford, Rippon, Saoutchik, Vignale, Vincents of Reading, and Windovers are shown. Extracts from the order books of Freestone & Webb, Hooper, H.J. Mulliner, James Young are reproduced, containing body design number, chassis number, and other data.
