Auto Union Grand Prix Wagen

With the founding of the Auto Union in 1932, and the new trade mark four circles depicting the joining of Horch, Wanderer, Audi and DKW, this was the start of a new age for motor sport. Daimler-Benz was a strong competitor in the automotive market place and, especially in racing. The announcement for the new Grand Prix formula in 1934 was soon to set the stage for a very interesting sporting contest of the next 6 years. It was a matter of prestige for Auto Union to present their technical knowledge and skill to the world's elite, and with names like Rosemeyer, Stuck, Varzi, and Nuvolari behind the wheel, their presence was going to be made. Stefan Knittel has produced a superb volume, having researched the history of Auto Union and has produced a wealth of fascinating photographs including two pre-war colour images, which show the construction of these fine racing machines. Changes to the body details of the various Grand Prix Types, from A, B, C to D and also the Record breaking cars are included. Technical data is given and copies of correspondence, one piece regarding Tazio Nuvolari in 1939 and his starting money. Also described is the rebuild of the only original 16 cylinder car, showing the restoration of the chassis and engine.
