La Grande Aventure des Delage 3 litres, written by Francois Jolly, has been produced to put the record straight with these fine 3 litre cars. Starting with a look at the early racers from Delage - the 1911 Coupe de L’Auto and later straight 8 model from Albert Lory - the book progresses onto its main topic of the 3 Litre model. Sport cars also have a mention in the story with the likes of the D6-70 Grand Sport from 1937. For nearly twenty years - from 1936 to 1954, the 3 litre cars shone in the world of motor sport, and yet until now these cars had for some reason been put to one side by most historians of the marque. The 3 litre was a 100% Delage product; they not only won many international events, such as the famous Tourist Trophy at Donington in 1938, and performed at Le Mans in 1939, they were a life line to the new sport series after the hostilities of the Second World War. Through the pages of the book there are specific cars which Jolly looks at to give a background development to the 3 litre models: D6 chassis 50688 the Berlinette by Figoni et Falaschi, which ran at Le Mans in 1937, and was later rebodied as a sports two seater; a chapter on Walter Watney and the two cars chassis numbers, 51820 & 51821 which saw a lot of competition use, and finally the big competition cars 880 001, 880 002, 880 003, 880 004 and 880 005. With a fantastic array of period images and details on the drivers such as Jean Achard, Robert Brunet, Philippe Etancelin, Daniele Foufounis, Patrick Garland, Georges Grignard, Armand Hug, Pierre Levegh, Henri Louveau, and Roger Loyer, etc, the story of these cars comes to life.
