Duesenberg The Pursuit of Perfection

The careers of the Duesenberg brothers are followed from the Mason, through the racing cars bearing their names, to the Model A which was acclaimed by many as the finest car in America when unveiled. This sophisticated, fast and expensive car remained current until 1926, during which time E. L. Cord of Auburn had gained control. He gave Fred Duesenberg a free hand in designing its successor and the outcome was the fabulous Model J. In a period when 100 b.h.p. put a car in the top rank, the Model J gave 265 b.h.p. from its 6.8 litres. In 1932 even more performance was offered in the supercharged Model SJ, its 320 b.h.p. giving a top speed of 129 m.p.h. Fred Roe has assembled more than 550 photographs to illustrate the text and to amplify the title. He presents such a thorough pictorial survey of the Duesenberg that it is doubtful if any previous book on a major marque has such a high per¬centage of photographs of cars to cars actually made. With the appendix covering such useful information as Duesenberg serial and engine number information from 1920-1937, along with specification of the model J and chassis number records from 2125 to 2614, the book offers an excellent reference work.
